SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Bishop Water
DESCRIPTION:Around the world\, wastewater regulations are getting stricter. But meeting them isn’t always easy. Remote and rural municipalities lack the tax base to support needed upgrades and the higher operating costs that often accompany them. Attracting and retaining the staff to run complex systems can also be challenging. Meanwhile\, urban areas often lack space to expand their facilities. \n\n\n\nBishop Water offers a simple solution. The Renfrew\, Ontario company has developed the BioCord™ Reactor. These compact cubes provide an affordable\, low-energy way to boost wastewater treatment capacity and nutrient-removal performance without expanding a facility’s footprint. \n\n\n\nToday\, BioCord™ Reactors are working their magic in communities across Canada — including the growing rural community of Limoges\, Ontario\, just east of Ottawa. Last fall\, they added 60 units to their wastewater lagoons\, more than doubling treatment capacity for less than half the cost of the next closest bidder — without expanding the lagoon’s footprint. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n1. Introduction of Bishop Water2. Introduction and background into the BioCord™ Reactor development3. Discussion of the benefits of BioCord™ including (1) meeting the needs of the wastewater sector; (2) environmental; and (3) economic4. The role of OWC programs5. Overview of other simple\, low-energy nutrient removal and solids management solutions

SUMMARY:Webinar - AUG Signals: Real-Time Water Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nWhen you add nitrates and phosphates to soil\, these nutrients help plants thrive. Adding them add them to water\, however\, isn’t so good. When nutrient-rich fertilizers or sewage gets washed into lakes and rivers\, they fuel an explosion of algae. \n\n\n\nThat algae can clog intake pipes of drinking water plants. It can make it difficult for fish to survive\, using up oxygen as it decomposes. And it can sometimes produce toxins that contaminate drinking water — like it did in Toledo\, Ohio in 2014\, forcing 400\,000 people to keep their taps turned off for days. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, current monitoring methods leave a lot to be desired. Technicians typically collect samples from the field once or twice a month and send them to the lab\, where it may take a week or to analyze them. However\, nutrient levels can fluctuate from day to day or even hour to hour. \n\n\n\nFor a full picture — and the ability to react swiftly to spikes in nitrates and phosphates — you need continuous\, real-time monitoring. And that’s exactly what Toronto’s AUG Signals (AUG) set out to provide\, with support from OWC. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\nIntroduction to AUG Signals– Brief background information of AUG’s different innovation domainsIntroduction to TRITON (real-time water monitoring technology)– Key features– Importance of real-time water monitoring Applications– Drinking water– Wastewater– EnvironmentCase studies and collaborations– International research projects– Indigenous communitiesQuestion period
