OWC Academy- Process and Energy Modelling for Optimal Operation of Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities
August 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EDT
Instructor
Spencer Snowling, P.Eng., Ph.D., Director, Water Digital Solutions, Hatch
Dr. Snowling is Director of Water Digital Solutions at Hatch (formerly Hydromantis). He has over 20 years of experience developing and applying simulation technologies to a wide range of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment challenges. He has a focused interest in the use of simulation technologies for teaching activated sludge concepts and oversees the development of the simulator used in the annual WEF Operations Challenge competition.
Course Overview
This session will focus on how to use dynamic-mechanistic models of water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs) as a tool to optimize the balance between robust process performance and minimized energy consumption. We will introduce model-based analysis and optimization techniques to determine the best set of operational setpoints to achieve lowest energy cost and overall carbon footprint while still meeting effluent quality requirements.
