Funding for industry-led collaborative projects

Advancing Water Technologies (AWT)

The AWT program was created by OWC to be a catalyst for business-led collaborations in the water sector. It was designed to help Ontario water technology companies leverage world-class research facilities and academic expertise to develop and demonstrate water technologies for successful introduction to the market.

More than 60 AWT projects were completed by December 2018 when the program closed. AWT provided more than $10 million financial contributions to research and development projects led by 49 companies across our partner institutions.

What’s next?

We’ve proved the AWT model works, creating jobs and commercializing groundbreaking, made-in-Ontario solutions. Looking ahead, we will be seeking funding to establish the next phase of the AWT program and leverage our success to date. This program is anticipated to further enhance the cleantech innovation ecosystem for the water sector, advancing technologies and strengthening market opportunities by creating strategic focus areas and partnerships with end users.

OWC also plays a role in supporting proposals for external collaborative funding opportunities across our network that benefit our partners.
