Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)
Program: Round 25 – Calls for Statement of Interest (SOI)
SOI Deadline: April 16, 2014
On behalf of the Government of Canada, SDTC helps commercialize Canadian clean technologies, readying them for growth and export markets. Through its SD Tech Fund™, SDTC helps companies through the critical juncture when capital and scaling costs become challenges and the risk profile deters other investors.
SDTC supports technologies that address the challenges of Clean Air, Soil, Water and Climate Change, including technology solutions focused on these current technology priority areas:
- Responsible resource development: Mitigate environmental impacts associated with Canada’s natural resource sector through technologies in the oil and gas, mining, and forestry sectors.
- Next generation transportation: Technologies related to next generation vehicles having reduced emissions and higher energy efficiency, with a focus on freight transportation.
- Resource and energy efficiency: Technologies that encourage energy efficiency in buildings and industrial processes, with a focus on industrial water use efficiency.
- Clean energy: Technologies that enable clean energy production, distributed power generation and energy storage as well as technologies related to carbon capture and storage, integrated energy systems, and biorefinery/biochemical production.
- Agriculture: Technologies that increase yield and improve temperature and drought resistance of agricultural crops, mitigate land-use changes and biodiversity loss and diversify farm incomes.
- Northern and remote communities: Innovative technologies and solutions for self-sufficiency in smaller communities, such as food security, heavy-lift transportation, small-scale renewable energy and microgrid applications.
Water Adaptation Management and Quality Initiative (WAMQI)
Program: Request for Proposals – For Applied Research Studies, Demonstrations and Pilot Projects
Deadline: March 4, 2014
Funding is available under two project streams:
Part A – Water Quantity: Water Conservation and Water Use Efficiency;
Part B – Water Quality: Managing Agricultural Nutrients
Complete program details, including information regarding eligibility and descriptions of the above project streams, are available in the RFP: http://www.farmfoodcare.org/images/pdfs/wamqiapplicationenglish.pdf
Funding: WAMQI will provide a maximum contribution per approved project of up to $70,000, with cost-share funding rates of 40 per cent up to 100 per cent of the eligible project costs. Review the program guidelines for more details.
The Water Adaptation Management and Quality Initiative (WAMQI) has three main objectives:
- To help Ontario farmers adopt water conservation and efficiency practices to address issues of water supply management;
- To help Ontario farmers prepare for, and better manage for, extreme or damaging weather events (e.g. hail, flash-flood) and adapt to the impacts of climate change (e.g. drier or wetter growing seasons; changes in pressures from pests) through the development of resilient farm practices; and
- To help Ontario farmers better manage nutrients and minimize off-site impacts of nutrients on surface and ground water quality.

Clean Tech Global Forum
March 25, 2014
Hosted by Keiretsu Forum, Toronto Chapter
Keiretsu Forum Toronto (www.keiretsutoronto.ca) is now accepting applications from post-seed-stage clean technology companies to pitch at the Clean Tech Global Forum.
The aim of the Global Clean Tech Conference is to consolidate and share, in real-time, clean tech deal flow via a multi-chapter, live and on-line, participation platform. The conference will consolidate the subject-matter expertise and insight of participating Keiretsu Forum chapters/members across North America towards a pre-screened set of high potential companies representing various regions.
This is an investor-only event and is open to all Keiretsu members and non-members.

In addition to the above funding programs, the following is an ongoing opportunity
MITACS
MITACS Accelerate Internships – Standard
Mitacs-Accelerate is Canada’s premiere research internship program. It connects companies with over 50 research-based universities through graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, who apply their specialized expertise to business research challenges. Interns transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while the companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise.
MITACS Accelerate Clusters
Mitacs-Accelerate clusters are an alternative for larger research projects involving multiple Graduate students and/or Post-doctoral Fellows. Applicants may apply once for an Accelerate Cluster involving a minimum of three interns, at least six 4-month internship segments, and a minimum of one industrial partner.
For more information, please contact Anna Ziolecki or visit the MITACS website.
Canada-Brazil Ciencia Sem Fronteiras (CsF) Scholarship Program
The Canada-Brazil Ciencia Sem Fronteiras (CsF) Scholarship Program (previously known as Science without Borders) is a large scale nationwide scholarship program funded by the Brazilian federal government to promote science, technology and innovation in Brazil through international mobility initiatives. Brazilian undergraduate students are enrolled as study abroad, non-degree students in international institutes to undertake language training, courses and research placements in universities or companies.
If you are a researcher from an affiliated Universities and/or a local company with a discipline-related learning opportunity and would like to learn more about the Brazil CsF undergraduate placement program, please find further information here.
