Meet the OWC Graduate Leadership Council Team
Serge Lévesque
Position: President
Program: PhD Candidate, Environmental Science, University of Guelph
Academic and Professional Background:
Serge studies water treatment strategies for agricultural runoff and reutilization. He specializes in incorporating electrochemical water treatment for treating irrigation water constantly recirculated for indoor agriculture. The electrochemical methods allow complete disinfection from pathogens, degrade chemical contaminants (e.g. pesticides) and solubilize nutrients from waste materials such as plant waste.
Serge has a pending patent application for treating hydroponic solutions using a regenerative process, two publications demonstrating different methods of achieving this process and experience in protecting water bodies. Experience includes working at a wastewater treatment plant, sampling water for GLIER and quantifying microplastics released from a wastewater treatment plant.
