Lambton College

The Lambton Water Centre as part of Lambton College’s Research & Innovation department is a multi-disciplinary centre established in 2013. Our focus is on supporting the improvement, development and commercialization of water and wastewater treatment technologies, systems, products and services for both municipal and industrial applications. The Centre strives to be a leader in addressing and solving current global water challenges through excellence in applied research, innovation and education. The Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater Systems Operations is a Lambton College program that aims to educate and train highly qualified professionals to serve emerging water & waste water industries in our region and around the world. Lambton College was ranked as #1 in Ontario and #2 in Canada for Research in 2020, in addition to maintaining a ranking within the top 3 Colleges for Research for five straight years.

Research Analyzer Lab

The Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre (BPRC) as a Technology Access Centre (TAC) collaborates with industrial partners to support the development of new and optimization of existing bio focused technologies and processes.

The BPRC provides access to expertise and state of the art facilities to conduct technical services, applied research and customized training for biotechnology companies in support of building the Canadian Bio-economy. BPRC research areas include: fermentation, bio augmentation for Groundwater Remediation, extraction & chemical analysis, bio process instrumentation & process control, among others.

Water & Wastewater Lab

The Water & Wastewater Lab is a pilot area for the design, building, and testing of water and wastewater pilot scale treatment technologies.

Facilities include high voltage, steam, compressed air and high ceilings for pilot development and testing.

Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre (BPRC)

The lab contains state-of-the-art chemical analysis equipment with the capability of identifying and quantifying compounds from many different types of samples.

Facilities include High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Systems (HPLC) with UV-Vis, RID, and QQQ(MS) Detectors, Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography System (UPLC) with UV, RID, and MS Detectors, Gas Chromatography Systems (GC) with QQQ(MS), FID, and TCD Detectors, Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES), Ion Chromatography System (IC), Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (MP-AES), Elemental Analysis Instrument (CHNS/O), q-PCR, Nano Drop, T100 Thermal Cycler, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Microplate Reader, Flow Cytometer, Fluorescent Microscope with On-Stage Incubator, Alcolyzer, Multiwave PRO Microwave Reactor System, Vacuum Oven System, pH multimeter, DO probe, Turbidity Meter, Conductivity Meter, DRB 200, DR 900, DR3900, -80°C Freezers.

Bio Pilot/Fermentation Lab

The lab is utilized to perform both collaborative research and fee-for-service analyses in support of technology and product development in the fields of water/wastewater and industrial biotechnologies.

The faculties include 3 and 5 L fermentation units, Biosafety cabinet, Autoclaves, Shaking incubators, -80 freezer, and Ultrafiltration unit.

RESEARCH GROUPS AND LABS

Instrumentation and Control Research group

Instrumentation and Control Research group develops process control systems with their required sensing and control instruments, complying with design specifications, standards, budget and deadlines.

Fabricating, wiring and commissioning the necessary components to automatically (or manually) control and monitor Flow, Level, Temperature, Pressure, Motion, Force, Vibration, pH and chemical composition of various elements. Professional drawings in AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D. Specializing in electric wiring diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Process flow diagrams (PFD) and mechanical design prototyping. Programming micro-controllers such as Arduino/Raspberry, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to assure quality control.
