Please note that this is an external survey for water companies sanctioned by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment (MEDTE), and undertaken by KPMG and ONEIA.

The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment (MEDTE) has engaged KPMG and the Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA) to undertake a survey of companies that are part of Ontario’s Water Sector to gain a better understanding of the sector. The information provided will help guide future policy and strategy development, and will allow the Ontario Government to identify where supports are needed to make Ontario’s water sector a continental water innovation leader. Your participation is critical in helping inform future directions.

In 2013, the Government of Ontario released its Ontario Water Sector Strategy, which presented a three-pronged action plan for establishing the Province as a “continental water innovation leader’. As part of this strategy, MEDTE committed to conducting a water sector benchmarking study to develop a standardized definition of the sector and gather economic data that will allow Ontario to compare its performance to other jurisdictions.

For the purposes of this survey, the water sector is defined as the sector that provides products and services to the municipal/utility, industrial, agricultural, commercial/institutional and residential sectors of the economy that encompass all aspects of water resource management (source water, drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater) in the watercycle – water protection, extraction, treatment, distribution, use, efficiency/conservation, and eventual return to nature.

(1) Company Background; (2) Subsectors; (3) Revenues; (4) R&D Spending; (5) Exports; (6) Employment.

The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The following is a link to the survey, which will take you to a third-party secure website to complete the questionnaire.

Update: survey is now closed

Survey responses will be received by KPMG and all answers will remain confidential. Information will only be reported in aggregate fashion that does not allow identification of any individual or organization. Your responses are highly valuable and critical for the success of future strategy, policy and program development and we thank you in advance for your participation. In return for you participation in the survey, you will be invited to a presentation of the key findings about the water sector in Ontario following the completion of the study.
